Story
The film follows Brahmagupt Srivastava, known as Baggu (Himansh Kohli), an unemployed young man from a lower middle-class family in Uttarakhand. His father, Aryabhatt Srivastava (Neeraj Sood), is a Class IV government employee with high expectations of his son. Society begins mocking Baggu as "Aryabhatt Ka Zero," and he gradually starts believing he really is a failure.
His ladylove Rinku (Sonnalli Seygall) is married off to a well-off SDM. Heartbroken, Baggu commits to UPSC preparation, but a chain of career setbacks and an unplanned legal tangle in Haridwar push his life in a different direction. The title is not about the mathematician. It is an inspirational social drama set in modern times, not a biopic of Aryabhata. At its core are the father-son relationship and the idea that every "zero" can become a hero.
Review
Critics are split on this one.
The positives: The most consistent praise goes to Himansh Kohli. One reviewer called it one of the strongest performances of his career, noting that he conveys vulnerability and quiet resilience without melodrama. Another said that Neeraj Sood and Alka Amin are very satisfying to watch as his parents. Reviewers also credit the film's emotional pull to its sincere performances and relatable underdog story. Several describe it as a good family watch.
The negatives: Others are harsher. One review says the story offers little novelty, since zero-to-hero tales have been told before, and that the screenplay is hardly engaging, with humour that only sometimes lands and emotions that don't touch the heart. The same review calls Kamal Chandra's direction below the mark and the music merely functional. It concludes that the film is a non-starter. Even a favourable review admits the execution is inconsistent and the music average.
My take from the coverage: The film is a predictable but earnest underdog drama. It will likely work best for viewers who enjoy feel-good family stories about self-belief and don't mind a familiar formula. If you want a fresh script or tight direction, the weaker reviews suggest you'll be disappointed.
Rating (based on the critical consensus): about 2.5/5. It has a strong lead performance and a warm message, held back by an uneven screenplay.
