| Khalifa: The Ruler (2026) Hindi Dubbed Full Movie Watch Online HD Print Free Download |
The Story
The film centres on Aamir Ali (Prithviraj Sukumaran), a carefree textile businessman whose easygoing life ends when his father is wrongly arrested. To save him, Aamir steps into the criminal underworld and learns he is the heir to a powerful gold-smuggling dynasty. His grandfather, Mambarakkal Ahmed Ali, was a legendary smuggler whose operations once worried even the government of Indira Gandhi.
As Aamir takes up the family legacy, the film widens into a global gold-trading network with links to the Middle East, London, Nepal and Kerala. Rivals close in. What starts as a rescue mission becomes a smuggling war in which Aamir must prove he can hold the throne his bloodline has handed him. The ending sets up a sequel, Khalifa: The Legacy, so the film plays as the first chapter of a larger saga.
The Review
Direction and writing. Vysakh is a director who knows how to stage mass entertainment, and Khalifa has his usual swagger: stylised visuals, slow-motion entrances, thunderous background score and set pieces built for the big screen. Jinu V. Abraham's screenplay is the weak link. Critics noted that it sets up an intriguing world, but its overall path is predictable. Anyone who has seen a "reluctant heir takes over the family empire" story can map out the major beats early. The emotional core, particularly the bond between Aamir and his father, never lands as strongly as it should, so the stakes feel more mechanical than personal.
Performances. Prithviraj is the film's greatest asset. His screen presence is commanding, and he carries the film with a confidence that elevates even weak scenes. The transformation from easygoing businessman to feared ruler is the film's best arc, and he sells it through posture and stillness more than dialogue. Neil Nitin Mukesh makes his Malayalam debut and looks sharp, but reviewers felt he was underwritten and deserved a stronger character. Malvika Sharma and the other female characters are largely sidelined, which is a recurring complaint. The supporting cast, including Shammi Thilakan, Indrans, Renji Panicker, Mohini and Suresh Oberoi, adds texture, though few get room to shine.
The cameo factor. A cameo by Mohanlal is a highlight, with critics calling it a powerful moment that lifts the film. Tovino Thomas and Soubin Shahir also appear in cameos. These appearances give the film some of its best audience-pleasing moments, though some viewers will feel the cameos are doing work the script should have done.
Action and climax. The action is the film's selling point. Early reactions called it a feast for action lovers, and the last act in particular is thrilling, with the film finally shifting into high gear. The mid-section is where momentum sags, as the smuggling-war plot spends time on routine set-ups and confrontations. The dialogue also draws criticism, with some lines described as truly awful, which can pull you out of otherwise well-staged scenes.
Technical side. The cinematography is slick and the production design convincingly sells the glossy, international world of gold trading. The music and background score amplify the mass moments effectively. The film is stylish throughout, but style often substitutes for substance.
Reception and Verdict
Reaction was mixed. Pinkvilla gave it 2.5/5, and the general consensus is that it works as a routine mass-action entertainer without being nearly as bad as its harshest critics claimed. At the box office it underperformed: it reportedly earned about Rs 45 crore worldwide against a budget said to be around Rs 50 crore, so it did not recover its cost. The streaming release on October 9 across six platforms, including Prime Video, Aha, ManoramaMax, Lionsgate Play, STARZPLAY and Simply South, gives it a second chance with a wider audience.
Who should watch it? Fans of Prithviraj, admirers of Vysakh's mass-action style, and anyone who enjoys glossy gangster sagas will find enough to enjoy, especially in the climax and the Mohanlal cameo. Viewers who want a fresh plot, nuanced female characters, or sharp dialogue may be disappointed.
Final rating: 2.5–3 out of 5. It is predictable yet engaging, and stylish yet not particularly memorable. It's a decent weekend watch on a good screen, carried by one star's charisma, and a missed opportunity to be something more.
